Africa is the world's second-largest and second most-populous continent, after Asia. At about 30.2 million km² (11.7 million sq mi) including adjacent islands, it covers 6% of the Earth's total surface area and 20.4% of the total land area.[2] With 1.0 billion people (as of 2009, see table) in 61 territories, it accounts for about 14.72% of the world's human population.

The Grow Africa partnership was founded jointly by the African Union (AU), the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD Agency) and the World Economic Forum in 2011. Grow Africa works to increase private sector investment in agriculture, and accelerate the execution and impact of investment commitments. The aim is to enable countries to realize the potential of the agriculture sector for economic growth and job creation, particularly among farmers, women and youth.

ILEG is an independent, non-profit public interest law and policy organization focused on promoting sustainable development. We work with local communities, governments, the private sector and civil society organizations (CSOs) to ensure fair, balanced and equitable development policy choices to improve peoples’ lives and protect the environment. Our work seeks to transform the way governments make decisions that affect the environment and natural resources on which livelihoods depend.

Recognizing the anti-patriarchal struggle is a vision expressed in all areas of our work. Our mission is to; demand environmental and climate justice; secure land and territorial rights; advocate for meaningful participation of citizens in budget making processes, resource governance; and provide for women-led community advocacy

 

Biovision was founded in 1998 by Swiss World Food Prize recipient Dr. Hans Rudolf Herren, with the aim of sustainably improving life for people in Africa while conserving the environment as the basis for all life.

In the 1980s, the world renowned entomologist Hans Rudolf Herren saved millions of people in Africa from starving to death by devising organic control methods for a devastating cassava pest. He was awarded the World Food Prize in 1995 for his work – he is the first, and so far only, Swiss person to have received it.

The WAD (Women's Action for Development) project focused on improving the socio-economic situation of vulnerable, rural women in the Kunene, Kavango and Oshikoto regions of Namibia. The objective of the project was to contribute towards poverty alleviation and to empower young, marginalised Namibian women. This was achieved by enhancing the income generating capacities of 2819 San and Ovahimba women. Interventions included training on social issues and women’s rights, vocational skills training in a myriad of vocations varying from computer skills to welding.

African Union

On 9.9.1999, the Heads of State and Government of the Organisation of African Unity issued a Declaration (the Sirte Declaration) calling for the establishment of an African Union, with a view, inter alia, to accelerating the process of integration in the continent to enable it play its rightful role in the global economy while addressing multifaceted social, economic and political problems compounded as they are by certain negative aspects of globalisation.

CONJUNTURA AUSTRAL é uma publicação Trimestral, em formato digital, vinculada ao Programa de Pós-Graduação em Estudos Estratégicos Internacionais (PPGEEI) da Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS). A Revista publica trabalhos de relações internacionais com foco nos países que integram o Hemisfério Sul, tendo como área geográfica de abrangência as relações internacionais da África, Ásia e América Latina, na perspectiva dos grandes temas da agenda de segurança, diplomacia e desenvolvimento.

African Affairs is published on behalf of the Royal African Society and is the top-ranked journal in African Studies. It is an interdisciplinary journal, with a focus on the politics and international relations of sub-Saharan Africa. It also includes sociology, anthropology, economics, and to the extent that articles inform debates on contemporary Africa, history, literature, art, music and more.

Resource Equity works to advance women’s rights to land and natural resources in order to promote women’s economic and social empowerment, and to reduce poverty while promoting lasting and equitable global development.
