Les élus de la CTG ont voté ce matin « le principe d’initier la création » d’un établissement public pour gérer 400 mille hectares au profit des peuples autochtones. L’attribution de ces terres de l’Etat est une promesse de l’accord de Guyane du 21 avril 2017.

- Forestry is big business in Guyana. The sector contributed 2.27 percent to Guyana’s GDP in 2016, with total forest products exports valued at $41.9 million. Approximately 20,000 people, mainly in the rural and hinterland areas, are employed in the sector.
In two newly released reports, indigenous leaders point out that the current concession allocations system in Guyana is unjust, severely flawed and facilitated by a national legal framework that does not fully respect their internationally protected rights to their customary lands and resources.
