These Regulations, made by the Minister of Natural Resources and Environment under sections 67 and 136 of the Mining Act, concern assignment of prospecting licences, prospecting permits for medium-scale mining operations and mining permits over areas as specified in the Regulations (reserved areas). Rights may be assigned by public auction, lottery, and applications by invitation.

This Act provides rules relative to prospecting, quarrying and mining of minerals. The Act also regulates the exportation of radioactive minerals and safeguards rights of Amerindians in respect of land and restricts rights of Amerindians to take minerals.The Minister may constitute part of Guyana as a mining district. All minerals shall vest in the State.

This Act provides for remedies in the case of disputes involving sale of an immovable common property that is undivided in shares. Any owner may request the Court to direct the sale of the property and the distribution of proceeds thereof. The Court shall have also discretion to direct a sale where sale is not requested by an owner of a moiety or upwards in accordance with section 4 (sect. 5).
