This paper reviews hypotheses about the impacts of rural population growth on agriculture and natural resource management in developing countries and the implications for productivity, poverty, and natural resource conditions. Impacts on household and collective decisions are considered, and it is argued that population growth is more likely to have negative impacts when there is no collective responses than when population growth induces infrastructure development, collective action, institutional or organizational development.
Continuing land degradation and increasing numbers of people living in poverty are among the symptoms of the current pressure on land resources. To date, the world’s response to the two challenges of satisfying human needs and maintaining the integrity of global ecosystems has been less than successful.

Er wordt inzicht gegeven in de mogelijke omvang van de veestapel per regio, het grondgebruik per regio en de saldi per regio en per sector, gegeven de verwachte externe omgeving van de landbouw in 2015.
The status of cadastral and land information systems in Africa is assessed, with specific reference to their capacity to assist decision-makers. Recommendations and guidelines are provided for the adaptation of existing systems and/or the development of new systems, so that they can be used for land reform, physical planning and integrated land administration. The guidelines take into account the need to create land information for decision-makers without creating unaffordable costs to the state, given that the average per capita income for Africa in 1995 was USD665.
