This Law stipulates that notwithstanding any native law or custom to the contrary a female person has the right to acquire and own property and shall share in the intestate estate of her deceased father, mother or husband in accordance with the provisions of this Law. Females may be the administrator or one of the administrators of her fathers, mothers or husbands estate. The Law also grants other rights to women and provides protection of women from degrading treatment and provides with respect to alienation of property. or interest in the matrimonial home.

This Act provides for the administration of estates of persons that die intestate. When a person dies intestate leaving any real property of whatsoever nature of which the intestate might have disposed of by will, such real property shall for the purposes of ad ministration be deemed to be part of the personal estate of the said intestate and shall be administered accordingly.

This Act vests all land comprised in the territory of each State in the Federation in the Governor of that State and requires that such land shall be held in trust and administered for the use and common benefit of all Nigerians in accordance with the provisions of this Act. In each State a Land Use and Allocation Committee shall be established. Such committee shall be responsible for advising the Governor on land management and resettlement issues. The Governor may declare urban areas and land controlled by the military shall be administered separately.
