This Law stipulates that notwithstanding any native law or custom to the contrary a female person has the right to acquire and own property and shall share in the intestate estate of her deceased father, mother or husband in accordance with the provisions of this Law. Females may be the administrator or one of the administrators of her fathers, mothers or husbands estate. The Law also grants other rights to women and provides protection of women from degrading treatment and provides with respect to alienation of property. or interest in the matrimonial home.

When a person dies intestate leaving any real property of whatsoever nature of which the intestate might have disposed of by will, such real property shall for the purposes of ad ministration be deemed to be part of the personal estate of the said intestate and shall be administered accordingly.

This Act regulates the (grant of) administration of real and personal estates of deceased persons. The Act also places restrictions on the disposal of such estates and provides for registration of documents and the handling of claims. An interest in property which cannot by law be disposed of by testamentary disposition is not property for the purpose of this Act. The President shall appoint a suitable person to be the Administrator-General for the purposes of this Act. Administration of intestate estates may be granted by the court to the Administrator-General.
