    There are not fixed conditions that make potential agricultural frontiers attractive to capital: different spaces and strategies are chosen in relation to previous failed experiments, including those strongly contested by social movements. Socio-environmental contestations can also inadvertently result in negative spillovers, or a kind of indirect land use change. I propose a concept of:redirected:land use and control change for cases with strategic adaptations by promoters of frontiers.

    In May 2012, the Committee on World Food Security approved the Voluntary Guidelines on the Responsible Governance of Tenure of Land, Fisheries and Forests in the Context of National Food Security (the “Guidelines”). The Guidelines have been described as a catalysing instrument that improves the conditions of land and natural resources, in the agricultural, fishery and forestry sectors. They address problems related to poor governance of land tenure and the growing pressure exerted on natural resources, thereby helping countries to achieve food security for all.

    As with the rest of Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC), Argentina has experienced an intense process of deforestation and loss of natural vegetation in the last few decades. As the eighth-largest country in the world, with a total mainland area of more than 2.7 million km2 , this not only has significant implications for the region, but globally too. Native forests, such as those in the “Chaco” region in the north of the country, have been particularly affected by this process.

En la actualidad, conforme datos oficiales, se estima que el 43.74% de palma aceitera sembrada en México, se encuentra en Chiapas. Esta situación, ha traído graves consecuencias para la vida de los pueblos y mujeres indígenas.
