Here below is a summary of main points and highlights from the study, hoping it will be useful for colleagues that do or do not consider urban dynamics as important and encourage them to integrate some reflections in order to better steer a development program or adapt it. A lot of what is below is relevant to many contexts and some of it is obviously more specific to the Lao PDR. I believe this study is a milestone for adapting programming in the coming four years during this current Mekong Region Strategy 2018‐2021 and paving way for the elaboration of the new strategy.

ncreasing flood risks in Thailand are leading to new challenges for flood management and subsequently for livelihoods, which are still significantly agricultural. Policy makers prefer building flood protection infrastructure over utilizing non-structural measures like urban planning regulations to mitigate risks. We argue that unplanned urbanization intensifies flood risks and livelihood vulnerability and may even create new poverty patterns in peri-urban areas.

Manifesto
Materiales institucionales y promocionalesDiciembre, 2021Mozambique, Colombia, Indonesia, Filipinas, Viet Nam, Bangladesh, Países BajosDiamonds in the Delta (DiD) is an international research-action network of scholars, water professionals and civil society advocates who are concerned about how climate change compounds problems of flooding and subsidence in delta cities. We – the people in the network – are united in our conviction that the needs, experiences and aspirations of communities that are actually or potentially most affected by these problems should be the focus when designing and implementing solutions.

Publicación revisada por paresMarzo, 2021Indonesia, NoruegaInformal settlements represent a challenging operational context for local government service providers due to precarious contextual conditions. Location choice and land procurement for public infrastructure raise the complicated question: who has the right to occupy, control, and use a piece of land in informal settlements? There is currently a dearth of intelligence on how to identify well-located land for public infrastructure, spatially and with careful consideration for safeguarding the claimed rights and preventing conflicts.

Publicación revisada por paresFebrero, 2021IndonesiaUrbanization is changing land use–land cover (LULC) transforming green spaces (GS) and bodies of water into built-up areas. LULC change is affecting ecosystem services (ES) in urban areas, such as by decreasing of the water retention capacity, the urban temperature regulation capacity and the carbon sequestration. The relation between LULC change and ES is still poorly examined and quantified using actual field data. In most ES studies, GS is perceived as lumped areas instead of distributed areas, implicitly ignoring landscape patterns (LP), such as connectivity and aggregation.

Finding The “Sweet Spot” In Property Taxation
Documentos de política y resúmenesDiciembre, 2019SingapurABSTRACTED FROM EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: Singapore’s present status of importing over 90 per cent of its domestic food consumption needs is a result of the city-state’s deliberate industrialisation policy to transform from third world to first over the past decades, reducing the farmlands for food production from about 15,000 hectares in the 1960s to about 600 hectares today to make room for higher value-adding industries.
