Uttaran is implementing a project titled, Sustainable Access to Land Equality-SALE' with support of European Union. SALE is the civil society component of overall access to land project that is lead by Department of Land Records and Surveys (DLRS) and Ministry of Land in Bangladesh.

The Overall objectives of the project is strengthening access to land and property rights for all citizens especially the poorest part of the community in line with the overall Access-to-Land program being implemented by Ministry of Land through DLRS. This project is implemented in three districts under three upazilas of Bangladesh: Amtali upazila of Barguna, Jamalpur sadar upazila of Jamalpur and Mohonpur upazila of Rajshahi District. NIRAS a consulting firm of Denmark is responsible for providing technical support for GNSS machinery operation and ETS.

This study highlights that access to khasland is a strongly political process where the collective movement played a pivotal role in shaping the livelihoods of land receivers. The paper shows that 1. khasland provides insurance and security through creating diverse income opportunities which can often mitigate the negative and long term impacts of shocks and allow khasland receivers to cope better with shocks 2. khasland allocation incentivises women’s engagement with labouring activities, household asset management, as well as their mobility within the village 3.
