This paper sets out the point of view of the ECA on the subject of transfer of technology and the issues in this field which form the main items of concern within the African region within this region, the scope of the subject of technology transfer is much wider than the present coverage of the formal concern and discussions which have been going on in the UN system as the result of the UNCTAD II Resolution on technology transfer.

Land degradation in the tropics is strongly associated with human population growth. The latter phenomenon is quite marked in humid areas and in the temperate highlands (Jahnke 1982).
