    The protection and management of environment are among the pillars of Vision 2020. The objective of the Government is that by 2020, it will have built a nation in which pressure on natural resources, particularly on land, water, biomass and biodiversity, has significantly been reduced and the process of environmental pollution and degradation has been reversed; a nation in which the management and protection of these resources and environment are more rational and well regulated in order to preserve and bequeath to future generations the basic wealth necessary for sustainable development.

Part III refers to the Environment Information System and the participation in environment management and protection. Part IV relates to the Environmental Impact Assessment.

    This Act amends the Land Act: in section 2 by inserting a new definition of “person who is not a citizen of Malawi”; in section 5(1) which restricts the making of a grant of any public land or any customary land to any person who is not a citizen of Malawi; in section 40 on proof of citizenship of Malawi; by adding new sections (24B, 24C and 24D) which place restrictions on the grant of private land to any person who is not a citizen of Malawi.

In particular, article 2 deals with definition of different kinds of facilities. Articles 74 and 75 concern limitations on construction within height restriction districts and limitations on construction within disaster prevention districts. The text consists of 17 articles.
