    Sustainable agricultural intensification holds promise to play a
    role in the broader effort to ensure food security while protecting our natural
    resource base. But what would such a sustainable intensification look like in
    practice? This chapter presents the results of an ex ante assessment of the yield
    and food security potential of 11 technologies for the sustainable intensification
    of the key staple crops of maize, rice, and wheat.

    This Law amends and supplements articles 17 and 18 of Law No. 9948 of 2008 dealing with the already-started land distribution procedures regulated by previous Laws No. 7501 of 1991 and No. 8312 of 1998 and provides local government structures with more time to finalize the documentation. It also adds article 19 according to which the decisions of the municipalities’ and communes’ councils and the documentation of land property completed by them according to law 9948 of 2008 during the period of 31 December 2013 to the date this law enters into force are considered valid.     This Notice of the Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs, made under section 7 of the National Environmental Management: Waste Act, 2008, contains national norms and standards for the remediation of contaminated land and soil quality. The requirements set out in these norms and standards apply to an owner of land or any person who undertakes site assessment and remediation activity in terms of that Act.

    The land challenge is central to the broader youth dynamics of migration, employment, livelihoods and belonging. The more than 1.8 billion youth living worldwide represent not only a land challenge, but an untapped potential in moving the tenure security agenda forward. Recognizing this, the Global Land Tool Network has partnered with UN-Habitat to develop youth responsive land tools through the Youth-led Action Research on Land program. Five action research projects will be undertaken by youth organizations in Brazil, Kenya, Nepal, Yemen and Zimbabwe.
