    In this Act "land development" means any act done to soil or land in order to increase its richness or quality, or to increase agricultural produce, and includes the improvement of soil or land which lacks natural fertility or lacks fertility due to its utilisation, and soil and water conservation to maintain natural balance or for suitable utilisation of land for agriculture. There shall be a committee called the "Land Development Committee" composed of ministers and Government officers.

    An Act to regulate the ownership and administration of Ratchaphatsadu land. "Ratchaphatsadu land" means every immovable property, which is State property except the following domaine public of State. There shall be a committee called "Ratchaphatsadu Land Committee" consisting of minister and other State officials. The Committee shall have duties to lay down policies, rules and procedure concerning the supervision, maintenance, utilisation and management of Ratchaphatsadu land. The rules and procedure prescribed by the Committee shall be in the form of Ministerial Regulation.

    The Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) - currently ratified by 187 countries - is the only human rights treaty that deals specifically with rural women (Art. 14). Adopted in 1979 by the United Nations Generally Assembly, entered into force in 1981. The Convention defines discrimination against women as follows:

Coca-Cola - the world’s largest purchaser of sugar - agreed to revise its corporate Supplier Guiding Principles to incorporate principles that recognize and safeguard local communities’ and indigenous peoples’ rights to land and natural resources.

    The project will contribute to the intensification of rainfed agriculture, the expansion of agricultural exports, the alleviation of poverty, and improved land use. It will pursue these aims by strengthening the capability of the Agricultural Land Reform Office (ALRO) to implement a series of land reform and development projects on encroached public lands and by demonstrating the viability of a land reform and infrastructure development model in an initial set of nine land reform areas (LRAs) of 192,000 ha affecting some 35,000 low-income families.

    Ownership security and land rights are important incentives to increasing land productivity and hence land value. This paper reviews the development of formal and informal land rights in Thailand over time and describes the present situation in which a significant amount of land is occupied by farmers without legally secured land rights in areas classified as forest reserves. A review of the literature on the economic implications of land rights suggests that farmers lacking secure ownership will have less incentive to invest.

    Fertilizer use in Thailand has become an integral part of agriculture due to the declining availability of arable land and the increasing role of rice and other agricultural exports in the economy. Approximately 47 percent fertilizer is used on rice, production of which has increased from 13.4 million MT to 36 million MT from 1970 to 2010 coinciding with a rise in fertilizer consumption from .2 million MT to 2.6 million MT.
