    The Contracting States, in the belief that objectives set out in the Preamble would be better achieved by amending the 1968 Algiers Convention on the Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources by expanding elements related to sustainable development, have agreed on measures to enhance environmental protection, to foster the conservation and sustainable use of natural resources; and to harmonize and coordinate policies in these fields with a view to achieving ecologically rational, economically sound and socially acceptable development policies and programs for the Convention area.

    This Act makes provision with respect to intestate succession and succession by will of estates including land and land-related rights. The Act sets out rules relative to inheritance and related distribution of estates in the case a person dies without having made a will. The Act also defines offences against persons entitled to inheritance or related to the deceased person.

    This Act: provides for the establishment of localities and local authorities; provides for functioning of local authorities; defines functions and powers of local councils and councillors; and establishes the Local Government Service Commission, the Local Government Finance Committee and the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Decentralization.Localities are established by this Act or, pursuant to this Act, by the President. A locality shall be administered by a local council which shall be a body corporate.

    The Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) - currently ratified by 187 countries - is the only human rights treaty that deals specifically with rural women (Art. 14).     Being an Act to amend the Town and Country Planning Act.

    This Act amends the Town and Country Planning Act, 1948 by repealing and replacing section 6. Section 6 concerns the declaration of a planning area by the Minister. If the Minister is of the opinion that a scheme should be made for the whole of Sierra Leone or, after consultation with the appropriate local authorities, that a scheme should be made for a specific area, the Minister may, by Order, declare that the whole of Sierra Leone or the area, as specified by a survey plan, shall be a planning area. Special rules apply to Freetown.
