This Act regulates the administration of Government land and land acquisition for public purposes. Further it establishes the procedure to be followed for such acquisition and provides for eviction from lands and properties which are either held or administered by the Government.

As a general rule, A person, other than a physical or a non resident person, may acquire by an act inter vivos immovable property in Malta without the necessity of obtaining a permit under this Act where such immovable property is required for the purpose of carrying out the activity for which it has been set up.

Where a lessor desires to make any change in the conditions of a lease on the expiration of its term, unless an agreement is reached with the tenant, he shall apply to the Rural Leases Control Board (which is established under article 5) and indicate the proposed changes. The Board may reject, approve or modify the new conditions proposed by the lessor. Article 4 regards the non-renewal of lease.
