    This participatory video titled “We Can” was filmed, produced, and directed by a group of 11 farmers and community members from Damolgo and Sekoti, Ghana. With this video they want to communicate the message: ‘we can use our combined knowledge to address the land management challenges we face.’ The film features farmers describing the importance of trees, stone bunds, contour planting and vetiver grass strips, mulching and manuring and the negative effects of bush burning.

    This video was planned, filmed and edited by a group of twelve farmers from three kebeles in Fogera woreda in Amhara region of Ethiopia. Gareth Benest from InsightShare, and Beth Cullen and Aberra Adie from ILRI, facilitated the participatory video training which took place between the 12th and 24th February 2012. The aim of the video was to bring local issues to the attention of planners and implementers of rainwater management interventions in Ethiopia.

    This digital story was produced to communicate the key messages resulting from the Nile Basin Development Challenge (NBDC). The Nile BDC aimed to improve the livelihoods of farmers in the Ethiopian highlands through land and water management and was funded by the Challenge Program for Water and Food. The eight key messages constitute a 'new integrated watershed rainwater management paradigm' and are based on the outputs and outcomes of trans-disciplinary scientific research for development.     During the drought of 2009 many Kenyan pastoralists were forced to move with their livestock in search of grazing land. We met Ann and her family in the rangelands outside of Nairobi. This is her story of how the drought has affected her life. This photofilm was part of a duckrabbit training productions for ILRI in Nairobi in August 2010. The audio and production was led by ILRI's Muthoni Njiru, Tezira Lore and Julius Nyangaga (formerly with ILRI). The majority of the photos are by David White of duckrabbit).
