   This Act provides the Department of Environment for Northern Ireland with powers to establish and manage protected areas including nature reserves and national parks. It also establishes the Committee for Nature Conservation. The Department may acquire land or enter into a management agreement with land owners for this purpose. This legislation also allows for acquisition of land by the Department. In addition, it states that bylaws can be created to protect such nature reserves. The Order also makes provision for the establishment of marine nature reserves.

   This Act grants the right to an owner or occupier of a domestic property who considers that the height of a high hedge situated on land owned or occupied by another person adversely affects the enjoyment of the domestic property to apply to the relevant local authority for a high hedge notice. A relevant local authority must dismiss an application in specified circumstances. Where a relevant local authority decides under section 6(5)(b) that action should be taken, it must issue a high hedge notice as soon as is reasonably practicable after making 15 that decision.

   This Act introduces the Scottish Landfill Tax as the replacement for UK Landfill Tax in Scotland. The Scottish Landfill Tax is a tax which is charged on taxable disposals. The Act defines what a taxable disposal is (A “taxable disposal” is waste material which has been disposed of by way of landfill), and prescribes, among other things, what disposals are exempt from the tax, how to calculate tax, who is liable to pay tax and when credit is available in relation to tax.

It also provides with respect to community planning and some matters regarding governance.The Act makes provision with respect to discharge of functions of Councils. A council's functions with respect to acquiring or disposing of land may only be discharged by the Council itself. The reforms concern every aspect of planning, including how development plans are drawn up, how development proposals and applications are managed and the way in which these functions are delivered.    This Act provides for the management and protection of forest resources in Northern Ireland. It, among other things, specifies functions and powers of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, provides for the protection of trees from damage and provides for restrictions on the felling of trees.The Department shall promote forestry on a wider footing than the traditional primary role of developing afforestation, the supply of timber, and the maintenance of reserves of growing trees.

   This Act makes provision for the adoption of planning instruments in Scotland such as the National Planning Framework, strategic development planning and local development plans.    This Act concerns the protection of listed building and the designation and protection of conservation areas. It also concerns compulsory acquisition or acquisition by agreement of land for purposes of the Act.Every planning authority shall: (a) from time to time determine which parts of their district are areas of special architectural or historic interest the character or appearance of which it is desirable to preserve or enhance, and (b) designate such areas as conservation areas. Also the Secretary of State may in certain circumstances designate conservation areas.
