    This Act defines powers and duties of Curator of Vacant Estates in respect of vacant estates and provides for the administration of such estates by the Curator.The Officer of the Curator of Vacant Estates is created under this Act and the Curator shall be appointed by the President. “Vacant Estates” shall comprise vacant successions and unclaimed property. The Curator shall act on the authority of a Vesting Order to be issued by a judge after procedures as prescribed by this Act have been completed.

The President may transfer any area of village land to general or reserved land for public interest (sect. 4). Village land transfer shall not be transferred until the type, amount and timing of the payment of compensation has been agreed upon. The Minister may declare any area of a village land to be hazard land.

"Settled estate" is defined in section 2 as "all immovable property and all estates or interests in any such immovable property, which are subject of any settlement". "Settlement" is defined as "any deed, agreement, will or other instrument under or by virtue of which any immovable property or any estate or any interest in any such immovable property stands limited to or in trust for any person or persons by way of succession or for a life or lives, or for a term of years determinable with the death of any person".
