   This Act makes provision for a wide variety of matters relating to land tenure and reform in Lesotho including the definition of rights in land, allocation of land in rural areas, grant of title in land, vesting of land in authorities, government acquisitions and acquisition and expropriation of land for public purpose, grant of long-term leases and regularization and adjudication of title in land, including resolution of disputes by specialized land courts established under this Act. All land in Lesotho is vested in the Basotho Nation and is held in trust by the King.

   The Act consists of 99 sections which are divided into 6 Parts: Preliminary (I); Land Holding (II); Control of Land Use (III); Land Management (IV); Land Tribunals (V); Miscellaneous (VI).Sections 3 declares all land in Uganda to be vested in its citizens and divides land tenure systems into 4 categories: customary; freehold; mailo; and leasehold. Section 4 defines these titles in detail. Mailo tenure is a form of tenure that permits the separation of ownership of land from the ownership of developments of the land made by a lawful or bona fide occupant.

   This Act provides for various aspects relative to dealings in land in Rotuma and provides for the appointment of the Rotuma Lands Commission. The Commission shall ascertain (traditional) land rights, resolve disputes relative to land rights, demarcate land and register land rights (sect. 4). All land found by the Commission to be un-owned shall vest in the Crown in trust for the Rotuman people, but shall not be considered to be Crown land. All moneys derived from such un-owned land shall be paid into the Rotuman Development Fund and be used for the purposes of that Fund.

   This Act consists of 7 Parts: Preliminary (I); Acquisition (II); Reference to an Appeals Board and procedure thereon (III); Apportionment of Compensation (IV); Payment (V); Temporary Occupation of Land (VI); Miscellaneous (VII).The Act provides a legal framework for the acquisition of private land by the government for the benefit of the public. Procedures and requirements for the acquisiton of land are set out in detail in the text.
