    This report comments on the situation of forest products in Niger. The first part of the report analyses the current uses and importance of forest products in the country followed by a special review on wood production and its uses. The later part looks into the collection, analysis and dissemination process and evaluates the methodologies used during the process. The most important products are also looked into in detail followed by some suggestions on how the overall process could be improved.

    The Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) - currently ratified by 187 countries - is the only human rights treaty that deals specifically with rural women (Art. 14). Adopted in 1979 by the United Nations Generally Assembly, entered into force in 1981. The Convention defines discrimination against women as follows:

    Global changes in climate today present hostile weather conditions which pose considerable threats to the rich and poor alike. The capacity for developing countries to cope with these impacts is weak and a development concern. The post-conflict West African nation of Sierra Leone is no exception. In fact, rural areas are exposed to high degrees of vulnerability, livelihood insecurity and hostile environments. This paper explores the experiences of rural people and identifies impacts and coping mechanisms used in response to these changes.

    After ten years of civil war in which grave human rights violations and atrocities were committed, especially against women and children, Sierra Leone was regarded as a «failed state». A massive UN peacekeeping mission managed to demobilize the combatants in 2002 and peace was restored. Public institutions have begun to resume their functions and the economy is showing signs of recovery. Nonetheless, the country's stability and structures are still fragile. So how can development cooperation contribute towards stabilizing Sierra Leone?

    This Act amends the Crown Lands Act by repealing section 3, 9, 17 and 19 and by amending section 4, which now reads: "The Minister may make grants of Crown Lands in such manner and subject to such conditions as may be required and as he may deem proper". The effect of the amendments is that now the Minister decides on granting of Crown land. Other repealed sections concern survey of land and resumption of lands by the State for the purposes of construction of public works.

    This Act amends the Crown Lands Act by repealing sections 12, 13, 20, and 28. Those sections concern implied covenants for a grant of Crown land and/or for every building lease, revision of rent, and return of land to the Crown if the grantee does not seem to make use of the land.
