The FAO Legal Office provides in-house counsel in accordance with the Basic Texts of the Organization, gives legal advisory services to FAO members, assists in the formulation of treaties on food and agriculture, for which the Director-General acts as Depositary, publishes legal studies and maintains a database (FAOLEX) of national legislation and international agreements concerning food and agriculture (including fisheries, forestry and water).

Regulations on the Protection of Basic Farmland.

These Regulations aim at implementing the special protection of the basic farmland and promoting the development of agricultural production and the national economy. "Basic farmland" means cultivated land which is determined in accordance with the demand of the population of agricultural products, the needs of the national economy, as well as a forecast of the use of land for construction for specified period of time, and which shall not be occupied for other uses for a long term, or within the specified protective period.

The president of the Federal Committee decrees to validate the Provisional Regulation. The document consists of IV Parts. Part I lays down the general provisions. Part II establishes the modalities of issuing licences. Part III determines the rights and the duties of the holder of licence. Part IV regards the modalities of control over the execution of licence.

Federal Land Cadastre Service (ROSZEMKADASTR) is the Federal Authority entitled to exercise the state management of land resources that carries out executive, control, authorizing, regulating and other functions as regards the keeping up of land cadastre and the state valuation of real estate property, land survey, valuation of land for cadastre purposes, land monitoring and the state control over the use and protection of land. Federal Land Cadastre Service has its local (territorial) branches at the regional level.

In accordance with this Regulation the licensed activity is sub-divided in two groups: a) inspection of agricultural land for the purpose of the exposure of the eroded, saline, swamped soils; desertified soils, sedimentary soils, as a result of mining, reindeer pastures with the soil and vegetation damaged; b) soils contaminated by industrial waste and nuclear substances. The Regulation consists of 4 Sections. Section 1 lays down the general provisions. Section 2 establishes the modalities of issuing licences. Section 3 determines the rights and the duties of the holders of licence.

This Act makes provision for licensing of Canada Land Surveyors and for the control of their conduct. Canada Lands Surveyor means a person who holds a commission granted under section 49. The Association of Canada Lands Surveyors is hereby continued under this Act. This Association is a body corporate consisting of a governing body and members.
