Flintan

Fiona Flintan is a Senior Scientist at the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), Addis Ababa. Her expertise included natural resource management, land governance, land use planning, pastoralism, dryland ecology, participatory research tools, and gender. Amongst her responsibilities she coordinates the global component of the International Land Coaltiion’s Rangelands Initiative. The Rangelands Initiative is a programme seeking to make rangelands more secure for local rangeland users through mobilising ILC members and partners and building capacity through learning and sharing of experiences, creating space for engagement with policy- and decision-makers at global levels, and influencing different stakeholders to pay more attention to land issues in rangelands for positive outcomes. The global component supports three regional platforms on rangelands and drylands in Africa, Asia and Latin America.  In addition Fiona manages the Sustainable Rangeland Management Project in Tanzania – funded by IFAD and Irish Aid – which had developed a process of joint village land use planning in order to protect shared grazing and other resources across village boundaries. She is also involved in a cross-CGIAR land governance project, the undertaking of large baseline surveys in pastoral areas of Ethiopia, and the development of a process of ‘participatory rangeland management.’
