The Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) - currently ratified by 187 countries - is the only human rights treaty that deals specifically with rural women (Art. 14). Adopted in 1979 by the United Nations Generally Assembly, entered into force in 1981. The Convention defines discrimination against women as follows:

This Act makes provision for the payment of compensation for withholding of property by persons acting in collusion with tenants and for the recovery of non-paid rent. The Act also makes provision for the renewal of leases without the surrender of land.

This Act provides for the control and planning of development and for the acquisition and disposal of land for planning purposes under the Lands Acquisition Act. It establishes the Town and Country Planning Authority and defines its functions and powers. The Authority shall make a development plan based on the review of existing development in the Seychelles.

This Act makes provision for the control of the relationship between landlord and tenant in respect of dwellings and specified land including agricultural land. The Act also grants power to the Minister to appoint a Rent Board and provides for functions and powers of the Board.The Act allows an interested party to apply to the Rent Board for rent control measures.

These Regulations provide for the establishment of the Landscape and Waste Management Agency as a body corporate and declare the Agency to be responsible for the management of waste and overall landscape development and management of Seychelles.

This Act makes provision with respect to security of tenure. It provides for the protection of tenants by defining their rights and by allowing statutory tenants to register with the Registrar of Tenants' Rights appointed under this Act.

This Act provides rules for acquisition land in the public interest, including compulsory acquisition, and related matters such as claims to compensation, examination of land and the taking possession of land, registration of interest in land and (effects of) withdrawal from acquisition.
