The Province of Huaphan is implementing Land Use Planning (LUP) as a way to achieve national development goals such as reduction of rural poverty, investment in land and reduction of competition over land. This report covers the process of land use planning; the results of consultations with villagers and district and provincial officials; and the next steps to implement land use planning in Huaphan Province.

On July 11, 2012, the U.S. Government announced a partial waiver of the ban on new investments in Myanmar. Americans are now allowed to invest in Myanmar but will be required to provide annual reports on their policies and procedures for human rights, environmental management, labor standards, land acquisition, and anti-corruption.

Vietnam has indeed made great progress in the past two decades, culminating in it attaining low middleincome-country status in early 2011. Progress and achievements notwithstanding, today, a core of chronic poverty remains with an estimated 5-6 million people still food insecure.
This paper describes the interventions undertaken in the Doe Mao Salong watershed in an effort to restore the landscape and improve the livelihoods of local communities. Interventions included forming multi-stakeholder platforms to facilitate dialogue and to ensure participatory land-use planning; the creation of tree nurseries for forest rehabilitation; identifying products for sale in local markets; and a focus on action learning. Land-tenure arrangements proved key to these interventions. The report describes the impacts.
