   With some of the earliest known human settlements in the world, most of Iraq together with Kuwait, eastern Syria and southeastern Turkey constitute Mesopotamia, also referred to by historians as the ‘cradle of civilization’. Iraq has a surface area of approximately 437,072 square kilometers, making it slightly larger than twice the size of Idaho. It is bordered by Turkey to the north, Iran to the east, the Persian Gulf and Kuwait to the southeast, Saudi Arabia to the south, Jordan to the west, and Syria to the northwest.

   Con una porción relevante de territorio cubierto de bosques, Honduras puede beneficiarse de implementar REDD+ tanto para contribuir a mitigar el cambio climático como para adaptarse a sus consecuencias. La adaptación al cambio climático es, sin lugar a dudas, una prioridad para el país, ya que éste ha afrontado eventos climáticos severos, incluyendo huracanes e inundaciones. En la actualidad, un abanico de actividades REDD+ se están implementando en el país, y también procesos de preparación para REDD+ con financiamiento de programas internacionales.

   Madagascar is the world’s fourth largest island with a total land area of 581,800 km². The country’s unique wildlife and biodiversity resources have attracted tourists and significant donor investments over the last three decades. In 2003, the Government of Madagascar committed to tripling protected areas and, by 2016, the country’s total coverage of protected areas had increased from 1.6 million to 7.1 million hectares.Madagascar adopted a new approach to protected area management in 2006.

   En vista de la desigualdad en el acceso a la tierra y a servicios sociales en Colombia que afecta a las mujeres rurales, y de la baja participación de mujeres en programas del Ministerio de Agricultura y Desarrollo Rural (MADR) y del Banco Agrario, el MADR solicitó a USAID y al Programa de Tierras y Desarrollo Rural (PTDR) de Tetra Tech ARD, realizar un estudio para entender cuáles son los cuellos de botella que afectan principalmente a las mujeres para acceder a los diferentes programas del Ministerio y del Banco Agrario.

   In spite of considerable oil revenues, Chad remains one of the world’s poorest countries, with 80% of its labor force in the agricultural sector. The country’s agricultural potential is underexploited. There are sufficient water resources to irrigate over 5 million hectares of land, weather droughts, and increase agricultural production substantially. With appropriate infrastructure and support, one-third of Chad’s land area could be used to grow crops.

   The 2016 Nepal Demographic and Health Survey (NDHS) is the fifth survey of its kind to be implemented in the country as part of the worldwide Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS) Program.     A nation formed just 10 years ago, Timor-Leste struggles to overcome complex challenges of land ownership and use rights that were created under Portuguese and Indonesian rule. Competing land claims between individuals, and between individuals and the state, are quite common and occasionally result in armed conflict and deaths. Complicating the problem is the absence of a property rights legal framework in which to address land matters.
