Este estudio proporciona un análisis completo de la estructura de las políticas públicas de apoyo al sector agropecuario de Panamá, utilizando la metodología de la OCDE de Estimados de Apoyo al Productor (PSE en sus siglas en inglés). La metodología PSE se enfoca en dos elementos principales de apoyo: (i) el efecto de la política gubernamental sobre los precios recibidos por los productores agrícolas, y (ii) el apoyo proporcionado a través de transferencias presupuestarias al sector.

Since 1988 the ejido sector in Mexico has been buffeted by a series of policy changes and exogenous shocks that have brought into question the agricultural viability of the sector as a whole. These changes -trade liberalization, privatization, falling subsidies, the abolition of price controls, macroeconomic shocks, devaluation and momentous changes in the legal framework governing land use in the ejido- have led to a radical reordering of the policy framework and incentive structure under which the farmers of these communal lands operate.

The Tehuacán-Cuicatlán Valley, Mexico, is the semiarid region with the richest biodiversity of North America and was recently recognized as a UNESCO’s World Heritage site. Original agricultural practices remain to this day in agroforestry systems (AFS), which are expressions of high biocultural diversity. However, local people and researchers perceive a progressive decline both in natural ecosystems and AFS.

Soil management in the Altillanura of Colombia’s Eastern Plains The strategies used for adequate soil management for the Altillanura (high plains with flat topography) of Colombia’s Eastern Plains are reviewed to establish modern, efficient, and sustainable livestock systems in this region. Advances in technology development within the technical and scientific cooperation agreement signed between Colombia’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MADR) and CIAT, as well as those of the Center’s Soils Project and several national institutions co-partners in the agreement.
