High water requirement of flood irrigated boro rice is of great concern because water is becoming scarce and expensive day by day. Dry direct seeded boro rice, grown in unpuddled and unsaturated/aerobic soil condition, requires only 50-60% water as compared to traditional flooded transplanted rice, and therefore it could be adopted as a water saving rice cultivation system in boro season of Bangladesh. Moreover, it offers a unique opportunity to grow winter leafy vegetables as intercrop. But high weed infestation is one of the major constraints in dry direct seeded boro rice.

The Fertile Crescent (FC) is a high biodiversity region where most temperate-zone agricultural species originated and were first domesticated. A favourable environment, a special plant community and an adaptive population combined to initiate the transition from a hunter-gatherer economy to one based on agriculture and food production in the Fertile Crescent.

Remote sensing and GIS tools have broadly helped hydrogeologists to delineate the groundwater prospective zones for watershed development and management. The origin, movement and existence of groundwater depends on several factors such as slope, drainage density, land use, geology, lineament density and geomorphology. Based on these, the mapping and identification of groundwater potential zones were carried out in a part of Nalgonda district, Telangana, India.

Econometric and simulation analyses indicate that land degradation does not threaten agricultural productivity growth and food security at the global level, but problems exist in some areas. Improving market performance could reduce erosion-induced yield losses to 0.1 percent per year and the number of hungry people in less-developed countries by 5 percent over 10 years.

In this study, I tried the understanding of the environment state of the farmland in Fukushima and neighbor prefectures in 2011 to contribute to an evaluation of the radioactive substance pollution of the farmland by the accident of Fukushima daiichi nuclear power plant which occurred with East Japan great earthquake disaster of March 11, 2011 with a satellite remote sensing technology. At first I was done interpretation of the paddy fields approximately one month after the accident by using an optical high resolution satellite image.
