    This Act includes article 21-A to Act No. 8.171 concerning agricultural policy. New article defines the areas subjet to the desertification process within the national territory. Such areas may be exploited only by applying an adequate management plan and by using new technologies in order to stop the desertification process and to improve the deserted areas.

    This Law is composed of 58 articles divided in five Chapters. It regulates the use of urban property with the view of granting the public interest, the well being of the population and environmental equilibrium. According to the Law, urban policy aims at planning the full development of all municipal social and property functions. To this end, the law provides general guidelines, defines competences and functions between the Federal, State and Municipal levels. Moreover, it defines urban policy instruments, regulates the master plans, and urban management democratic structures.

    This paper on Water for Rural Development is divided into two parts. The first part outlines the most important issues from IWMI's point of view on water for rural development, with a focus on developing countries. This part identifies, discusses and provides recommendations for key areas for interventions in water resources development and management in the context of rural development. The second part of the document provides analyses of present and future water resources in the World Bank's defined regions.

    This paper looks at the impact of the introduction of new soybean technologies on the clearing of natural vegetation (forest and savanna) in southern Brazil, the Brazilian Cerrado, and Santa Cruz, Bolivia. The paper looks at how technological change interacted with other government policies and examines general equilibrium effects on product and labor markets as well as the direct on-farm effects. In southern Brazil new technologies made large-scale mechanized soybean production more profitable.

    Para determinar cómo influye la intensidad de la boreo en un Oxisol de la Altillanura sobre las propie dades físicas del suelo relacionadas con el movimiento del agua y relacionar éstas con el almacenamiento y agotamiento de la misma en el suelo a través del balan ce hídrico, se seleccionó un suelo Typic Haplustox isohipertérmico caolinitico de Puerto López (Meta). El suelo venía siendo cultivado con diferente numero de pases de rastra: 2,4 y 8 por año para un total acumula do de 6,12 y 24 pases.
