La conservation et la gestion durable de la forêt font partie des grandes priorités de développement de Madagascar. Néanmoins, la problématique de la déforestation et de la dégradation des forêts reste cruciale pour diverses raisons, liées notamment au contexte socioéconomique du pays, à la gouvernance des ressources naturelles et à la politique de développement.

Soil loss is a major threat to agricultural development in Malawi, and the size of the agricultural sector in the Malawian economy renders it a major limitation to the overall economic development of the country. Soil loss reduces cultivable soil depth, but also takes away fertile soils from farmlands. The net effect is a loss of agricultural productivity, increased expenditure on fertilizers, and a general decline in profitability of crop production.

This guidelines booklet is addressed to the LADA partner countries and, more in general, to the increasing number of countries which are expressing their interest in implementing the LADA approach for mapping Land Degradation. The specific objective is to provide guidelines for the identification, selection and description of nationally based indicators of land degradation. The LADA approach is well defined by a range of specific documents and manuals. The National indicators common to all countries are based on the LADA-Wocat QM manual.

<p>This publication was prepared for ‘Income for coastal communities for mangrove protection’ project (2015-2016) which aimed to develop a low-cost mechanism enabling investors to responsibly promote mangrove conservation, carbon emissions reduction and sustainable development through the provision of funding to local communities. This report reviews sources of funding for mangrove protection with particular focus on Pakistan, Thailand and Viet Nam.
