Reindeer Rangifer tarandus tarandus husbandry in Sweden commonly uses the Scandinavian mountain chain as grazing area during the snow-free season and the coniferous forests in the east during winter. Current knowledge of habitat use by reindeer is primarily based on traditional or local knowledge, or on investigations carried out on wild reindeer and caribou in other parts of the world. We identified spatial and temporal habitat use of free-ranging semi-domesticated reindeer by following 48 GPS-equipped reindeer in three summer ranges in the Swedish reindeer herding area.

In Canada, where public ownership of forestland is prevalent, a central decision facing policy makers is how to allocate timber resources to private forest companies. Debates tend to focus around what proportion of the annual harvest should be devoted to markets opposed to long-term contracts. To give a guide to policy makers, we surveyed forest firms from New Zealand and Sweden where this decision is based purely on a commercial basis. On average, mills source fifty percent of their fibre from the market.

The use of plant biodiversity indicators in a nationwide survey of semi-natural grasslands in Sweden was examined by comparing results from the survey with additional in-depth studies of plant diversity at the same 30 sites in southern Sweden. Additional grasslands, that were not subjected to the nationwide survey (i.e. rejected after an initial site selection), were also investigated in order to examine the quality of the initial site selection and to assess to what extent they harboured species rich plant communities.
