    • Remaining intact forests still covered 519 million ha in the Asia-Pacific region in 2020. Of these, 378 million ha are intact contiguous forests. This area is wider than the 140 million ha reported by countries to the FAO Global Forest Resources Assessment (2015) as “primary forests.”
    • Large-scale remote-sensing assessments of some formations, notably seasonal forest and woodland types, need to be complemented by field surveys to properly identify and map the different primary forest types corresponding to FAO’s definition.

    Meaningful work for mobile youth that enhances forest landscapes

    This report explores how forest and farm producer organisations (FFPOs) can best nurture youth and address youth migration. Youth (15-24 years of age) bring energy and innovation to forest and farm production systems. Of a total global youth population of 1.2 billion, 85% live in developing countries where they make up the mainstay of the rural workforce. Yet, 75% of youth are currently classified as underutilised (unemployed; in irregular or informal jobs; or outside of formal education and training).

    In the face of the climate crisis and threats to food security, a safe water supply and biodiversity, GLF Bonn 2019 sought to hear the voices of Indigenous Peoples, local communities, women and youth – all of those with the greatest stake in confronting such global challenges. The forum did not avoid identifying hurdles, most of which stem from conflicting rights and interests, that hinder cooperation to rapidly secure the rights to a healthy life for present and future generations.

    Este trabajo investigativo práctico se desarrolla con los pobladores de la Comunidad de Ñamarin del Cantón Nabón, quienes al momento sufren las consecuencias de la mala calidad de agua que afecta a su salud, problema que es causado por el mal manejo de los recursos de los páramos. Por esta razón se busca desarrollar actividades de reforestación que permita mejorar la capa de vegetación y promover en la población actitudes de conservación y protección de los recursos como el agua, el suelo y la vegetación a fin de contribuir a mantener un ambiente adecuado y saludable para la población.

    Con el propósito de identificar el potencial de ocho comunidades indígenas y una comunidad campesina para llevar a cabo prácticas de manejo forestal comunitario, se formuló un estándar con base al enfoque de medios de vida. El estándar de PC&I se complementó con una protocolo de aplicación constituido por protocolo de entrevista semiestructurada, protocolo de observación, guías de campo y fichas por indicador.
