The Global Programme Responsible Land Policy (GPRLP), launched in November 2015, is based on the assumption that secure land rights can
➊ improve food security and foster investment,
➋ lead to sustainable land use,
➌ reduce conflicts and
➍ improve women’s access to land as well as that of marginalized groups.

The Global Programme is commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), co-funded by the European Union and works in Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Ethiopia, Laos, Madagascar, Peru (completed in 2021), Uganda and Paraguay (completed in 2018).
The movement to secure women’s land rights in Senegal needs to take into account the rights of all sections of the targeted communities. Hence, the cases presented testify to specific situations along with evaluations of initiatives targeting improvement of women’s land rights. For instance, much of the quota land allocated by the Delta Development and Operations Corporation (SAED) is either untapped, sold, or exploited by male members of the beneficiary women’s families.
