    This Act makes provision with respect to the recognition of tribes and certain matters regarding the administration of tribes, i.e. the institution of traditional leadership by a person designated by the tribe and recognized by the Minister.The Act, among other things, sets out the procedures for the designation and recognition of traditional leaders, provides for appeal against decisions of the Minister, defines the functions of traditional leaders, defines the jurisdiction of courts in matters of administration of tribes and defines regulation-making powers of the Minister.

    This Act concerns the establishment, recognition, functioning and jurisdiction of Customary Courts and related matters. The Act also provides for the appointment of the Director of Tribal Administration and deputies for the purposes of this Act. Every Chief may submit for the consideration of the Minister recommendations for the recognition, establishment, abolition or variation in jurisdiction of customary courts within his area.

    This Order, made under section 49 of the Customary Courts Act, implements provisions of that Act in respect of, among other things: registers to be kept, procedural requirements in relation with hearings at a customary court, right of appeal in accordance with section 42 of the Act, procedure on hearing of civil appeals and recording and delivery of judgment.

    These Regulations, made under the Tribal Land Act, concern the administration of tribal land and related matters.The Regulations provide for the constitution and abolition of Land Board Offices by the Director appointed under the Act and for the establishment of Land boards consultative committees in each land board. They also establish the Land Board (Joint Staff Consultative) Council and provide for other matters relating to the administration of land boards.

    This Act concerns the ascertainment and application of customary law in Botswana."Customary law" means, in relation to any particular tribe or tribal community, the customary law of that tribe or community so far as it is not incompatible with the provisions of any written law or contrary to morality, humanity or natural justice.
