    The Act makes provision with respect to titles in land, the development of selected land, and the resolution of disputes regarding land and various other matters relating to land. As a corollary to the principle that land in Lesotho is vested absolutely and irrevocably in the Basotho Nation and is held by the State, no person, other than the State, shall hold any title to land except as provided for under customary law or under this Act. Where the customary law is inconsistent with this Act, this Act shall prevail (sect. 3).

    The Act concerns the setting aside of land as a national park and for the appointment by the Minister of the Board of Trustees, which shall control, manage and maintain national parks. The Board shall be a body corporate. It may in national parks, among other things: take measures that will ensure the preservation and security of animals and vegetation and set aside parts of a park as breeding places for animals or nurseries for vegetation. The Act also provides rules for the hunting of animals or the damaging or gathering of plants in a national park.

    This Act makes provision for a wide variety of matters relating to land tenure and reform in Lesotho including the definition of rights in land, allocation of land in rural areas, grant of title in land, vesting of land in authorities, government acquisitions and acquisition and expropriation of land for public purpose, grant of long-term leases and regularization and adjudication of title in land, including resolution of disputes by specialized land courts established under this Act. All land in Lesotho is vested in the Basotho Nation and is held in trust by the King.

    "An Act to repeal and replace the law relating to land, provide for the grant of titles to land, the conversion of titles to land, the better securing of titles to land, the administration of land, the expropriation of land for public purposes, the grant of servitudes, the creation of land courts and the settlement of disputes relating to land; systematic regularisation and adjudication; and for connected purposes.

    This Act provides rules relative to the exploration for and the exploitation of mineral resources and related matters such as the protection of the environment and the use of water resources.This Act declares all rights of ownership in minerals to be vested in the Basotho nation. Mineral rights may be acquires and exploited in accordance with this Act. The Act sets out restrictions on the acquisition of mineral rights. Mineral rights are: a prospecting licence; a mining lease; a mineral permit for small-scale mining operations (together: "mineral concessions").

    The Act empowers the planning authorities to prepare development plans in order to ensure sustainable development of land. This Act shall apply to any area designated by the Minister by Notice in the Gazette. The Act establishes the Town and Country Planning Board. The Planning Authority shall prepare a development plan in respect of any area to which this Act applies. Permission of the Minister shall be required group of land or building uses which may be prescribed by Order of the Minister.
