    These Rules provide for matters relative to proceedings of arbitration and appeal to the Supreme Court as provided for in the Acquisition of Land Act 1970. Matters regulated include such the place of arbitration, hearings, notice of filing of appeal and procedures of hearing at the Court. The Rules also set out principles applicable to determination of value of land.

    These Regulations prescribe that any compensation agreed or awarded for land of which possession is taken by the Minister under the authority vested in him by section 8(1) of the Acquisition of Land Act 1970 [title 19 item 2], shall carry interest from the date of entry until compensation is paid or paid into court in accordance with that Act at the rate of 7 percent per annum.

    The present Regulation implements the Crown Lands Act (Chapter C340). Section 2 establishes that no person shall graze livestock on Crown land except under the authority of: a) a lease under the Agricultural Crown Land Leases Regulation or b) a permit issued by the director under this Regulation. The text consists of 4 Parts divided into 20 sections as follows: Definitions (I); Grazing permits (II); Hay permits (III); Repeal (IV).

    Section 3 of the present Regulation establishes the land uses which are permitted in an agricultural land reserve unless otherwise prohibited by a local government bylaw or, for lands located in an agricultural land reserve that are treaty settlement lands, by a law of the applicable treaty first nation government.

    These Regulations provide rules relative to the keeping of bovine animal, swine, sheep, goat or horse for purposes of soil conservation. No person shall keep or cause or permit any other person to keep animals, otherwise than in accordance with these Regulations or in accordance with a permit issued under regulation 4. Separate rules apply to zero grazing units in the sense of the Agriculture (Control of Animal Diseases) Regulations 1947. Regulation 3 prescribes a minimum area of land for each animal grazed. Regulation 5 places restriction on the importing animals.

    The present Regulation is enacted under the Alberta Land Stewardship Act. In particular, the Regulation provide clear rules for a review of a regional plan, titleholders can apply for a variance to a plan and landowners can apply for compensation in appropriate cases. The Regulation supports also regional planning under Alberta's Land-Use Framework as set out in the afore-mentioned Act.
