This paper discusses the role of FAO support to the Government of Mozambiques Land Commission since 1995, through three consecutive projects. While each has had a relatively short duration, all have been planned and implemented within a single conceptual framework with a much longer time horizon. This has allowed a difficult and complex issue to be progressively developed and nurtured within a realistic time scale, while building up a strong sense of national ownership of the process.

La tierra: un recurso en disputa describe de qué forma y sobre qué instituciones y actores ejercen presión las actuales demandas por la tierra y otros recursos naturales asociados en los 4 países estudiados. Se identifica y se presenta a los actores que ocupan o tienen intereses en el territorio rural, haciéndose el esfuerzo de ir más allá de las categorías genéricas de “campesino”, “indígena”, “agricultor” o “inversionista”. Así, se hace un intento por desglosar y averiguar quiénes integran cada uno de estos grupos en la actualidad.

Con el fin de visibilizar la situación de las mujeres rurales en la región del Chaco argentino en torno a sus derechos y acceso a la tierra ante la Convención Internacional sobre la Eliminación de todas las formas de Discriminación contra la Mujer (CEDAW) de Naciones Unidas, diversas organizaciones de la sociedad civil trabajaron articuladamente en la elaboración de un informe alternativo que fue presentado en la sesión 65ª de la CEDAW en el 2016.

With the start of a commodity boom cycle in the early 2000s, many resource-rich countries reaped benefits as prices for commodities increased over the ensuing decade. Many of these countries see mining as a central element of modernising their economies, and actively promote investment in the mining and extractives sector. Indeed,between 2000 and 2012, investment spending by global oil, gas, and mining companies increased five-fold, especially in Latin American and sub-Saharan Africa.

Es una realidad que hay contradicciones en cuanto al manejo y la tenencia de la tierra en América Latina, siendo una situación importante que impacta en las economías locales y en la vida de millones de personas. Aunque en las últimas dos décadas la mayoría de los países latinoamericanos han implementado en su legislación medidas para promover el acceso y derecho de la mujer a la tierra, siguen existiendo limitaciones que no han permitido un mayor avance hacia la equidad en la distribución de la tierra.
