LegislationItaly, Europe, Southern EuropeDespite its title, this landmark statute provides the mechanisms for the implementation of a policy of integrated management of land and allied water resources, primarily in a non-urban context, and the institutional arrangements needed to administer and operate such mechanisms (sect. 1). It was enacted largely in response to the state of divided and compartmentalized responsibilities of the central, regional, and local governments in the management of the above-mentioned natural resources.

"Land amelioration" is defined in section 2 as "the drainage, irrigation or double-purpose regulation of water conditions, also the application of agromeliorative or land cultivation measures". Another key term used in this Law, "Amelioration System" (abbreviated "AS") is defined as "the complex of buildings and constructions for drainage, irrigation or double regulation of water conditions". This Law makes provisions in 25 sections for the construction, ownership, use and maintenance of Amelioration Systems and the creation of Amelioration Associations.

LegislationKazakhstan, Russia, Central AsiaArticle 5 of the Law No. 214-1 on peasant farm acquires a new wording: «The plot of land of a peasant farm shall be inherited according to the modalities envisaged by the national legislation». Article 6 of the same Act acquires a new wording: «The plots of land for farming shall be allotted to the citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan on condition of ownership or on condition of temporary charged lease for the period up to 49 years and for seasonal grazing on condition of temporary land tenure free of charge».
