    This Law establishes legal basis for geodetic and cartographic activity. The sphere of the aforesaid activity includes distant zoning of the Earth, land use planning and mapping. The Act consists of 3 Sections divided into 21 articles: (1) general provisions; (2) regulation of geodetic and cartographic activity; and (3) conclusive provisions. The competence of the Government shall be to determine the authorized state institution in the sphere of geodesy and cartography. Geodetic, cartographic and hydrographical materials shall form national state geodetic and cartographic fund.

    The present Land Code regulates land relations and is aimed at the creation of conditions for rational use and protection of land, reproduction of soil fertility, conservation and improvement of environment and equal development of all forms of land tenure.     This Law specifies and regulates separately common leases, including lease of land and natural resources, leases of enterprises, and leases by citizens. It provides also for the contract of lease of labor. Article 3 defines the sphere and objects of lease. Article 7 contains rules relative to the lease agreement, and following articles (arts. 8-15) further define the relationship between lesser and lessee, including matters such as fees, protection of the lessee, terms of lease, changes in the agreement, etc.

    The Land Code makes provision for the regulation of "land relations" and its purpose is to secure rational use and protection of land, the protection of the environment, and "the equal development of all forms of economic activity in Tajikistan" (Preamble).
