    This Act makes provision with respect to intestate succession and succession by will of estates including land and land-related rights. The Act sets out rules relative to inheritance and related distribution of estates in the case a person dies without having made a will. The Act also defines offences against persons entitled to inheritance or related to the deceased person.

    This Act: provides for the establishment of localities and local authorities; provides for functioning of local authorities; defines functions and powers of local councils and councillors; and establishes the Local Government Service Commission, the Local Government Finance Committee and the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Decentralization.Localities are established by this Act or, pursuant to this Act, by the President. A locality shall be administered by a local council which shall be a body corporate.

    This Act amends the Town and Country Planning Act, 1948 by repealing and replacing section 6. Section 6 concerns the declaration of a planning area by the Minister. If the Minister is of the opinion that a scheme should be made for the whole of Sierra Leone or, after consultation with the appropriate local authorities, that a scheme should be made for a specific area, the Minister may, by Order, declare that the whole of Sierra Leone or the area, as specified by a survey plan, shall be a planning area. Special rules apply to Freetown.

    This Act establishes the Bumbuna Watershed Management Authority and constitutes the Bumbuna Conservation Area.The object for which the Authority is established is to promote sustainable land use practices and environmental management in the Bumbuna Watershed, to protect the flora and fauna in the Bumbuna Conservation Area and to protect the Bumbuna reservoir.The Authority shall be a body corporate and be managed by a Board.

    This Act provides rules relative to the exploration for and the exploitation of mineral resources and related matters such as the protection of the environment and the use of water resources. It also contains special provisions relating to radioactive minerals.The Minister responsible for mineral resources shall be the principal administration authority for purposes of this Act and the Director of Mines shall be responsible for the implementation of this Act. Some powers are assigned to the Director of Geological Survey.

    This Act provides with respect to local courts. The existing Native Courts and Group Native Appeal Courts are re-designated Local Courts and Group Local Appeal Courts and the term "Local" is substituted for the term "Native" in every designation of any such courts in any existing enactment.

    This Act provides with respect to constitution, administration and jurisdiction of local courts and related matters. It also provides for appeal against decisions of local courts to the District Appeal Courts or to Customary Appeals Division of High Court. There is hereby established for each Chiefdom of Sierra Leone a Local Court which shall consist of a Chairman, Vice Chairman and such other members as the Minister may determine.

    This Act makes provision with respect to the procedure of escheat of property, i.e. the appropriation of any casual revenues arising within the Colonies or Foreign Possessions of the Crown (other than Droits of the Crown and Droits of the Admiralty) for or towards any public purposes within the Colonies or Possessions in which the same respectively may have arisen, including the revenue to arise from the estates and effects of persons who have died intestate and without heirs or next of kin.
