This Act is composed of 35 articles divided into eight Chapters. It aims at establishing the terms under which the creation, exercise, modification, transfer and termination of the right of land use and benefit operates. It regulates ownership of the land and public domain, the right of use and benefit of land, powers and responsibilities of the concerned public bodies. In particular, it defines obligations to be fulfilled by foreign or national entities, as well as fees to be paid in order to obtain a licence for land exploitation.

A law that regulates land-use planning and rational exploitation of land. Land is property of the Government of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau, its exploitation is allowed only under concession or authorization granted by the Government. Agricultural land exploitation areas shall not exceed 300 hectars, but the Council of Ministers may authorize land-use concessions to cooperatives and national or foreign companies for areas not exceeding 1500 hectars.

The Law authorises the State Government to grant the right of using the occupied land to those native populations residing since over 50 years in Rio De Janeiro Conservation Units. The Law also requires native populations to actively participate in the preservation of the aforesaid units. To this end, the Law specifies forbidden activities, natural resources’ conservation duties as well as fines and penalties for non compliance.

This Law, consisting of 8 Chapters establishes reform, settlement and colonization of vacant lands belonging to the State of Piauí. The Institute for Reform and Land Regularization - INTERPI is the competent body for the management and administration of land policy in the State of Piauí, in accordance with State Law No. 3.783 of 16 December 1980. The INTERPI may create support offices inside the State, called Land Governance Office aiming to accelerate the fulfillment of its objectives. Land regularization includes rural and urban public land of the State of Piauí.
