    This document, presents a learning story from the LEGEND Challenge Fund that supported partnership projects by civil society and private sector business to test approaches through which private business can potentially contribute to more secure land rights and better land governance in agricultural investment sites and supply chains. It explains the challenges involved in a participatory mapping exercise conducted jointly by a company Natural Habitats Sierra Leone Ltd (NHSL) a member of the Netherlands based Natural Habitats Group (NHG), and the NGO Solidaridad.

It was hoped that such a seminar would enable the Niger to become acquainted with and compare the latest methods used by certain African countries and possibly to benefit from their experience in establishing a cadastre in the Niger.

    This Act governs the leasing of farm land.The amount of rent from farm land shall not exceed 37.5 per cent of the total annual harvest of the principal product of its main crops. It shall be reduced to 37.5 per cent if the originally agreed rent is more than 37.5 per cent. It shall not be increased to 37.5 per cent if the originally agreed rent is less than 37.5 per cent.The Municipal or County (City) Government and the Village (Township,City, District) Office shall respectively set up the Farm Land Tenancy Committee.

    This Regional Law regulates land relations within the framework of plenary powers transferred to the regional executive bodies by the federal legislation. Regional Government shall perform the following plenary powers: (a) decision-making related to expropriation, including bailout, in cases envisaged by acting legislation; (b) land reclamation; (c) modalities of calculation of land lease and land rent payment for public land pertaining to regional ownership; (d) validation of cadastre land evaluation; and (e) application of land use restrictions.
