As foreign states and corporate entities continue to exert pressures on African countries to acquire land for various investment purposes, Tanzania is not exempted. The country is stereotypically perceived as having large underutilized, or rather unexploited, fertile land – the so-called ‗virgin land‘.

    Numerous agro-environmental indicators have been developed to assess the impact of farming systems on biodiversity. They can be combined into logistic models for predicting the presence of species of ecological interest. In general, several models are available for a given species and their practical value depends on their accuracy and the cost of measurement of their input variables.

    The purpose of this report is to bring out certain key lacunae in the existing legislation and policy and suggest legal, moral and policy alternatives regarding displacement due to large projects in India. Central to the land-acquisition law reforms is the problem of a lack of political will which has prevented the 2007 Bill from being passed in both the houses of the Parliament. Towards the end, Author has attempted to highlight this political issue and the lacunae that exist even in the amended bill.

    This Act amends certain provision of the Constitution of Tonga. In particular, it updates the supreme law of Tonga as regards the rule of law and the judicial power. It is worth noticing the insertion of New Clause 83A “Rule of law and Judicial Independence”, which stipulates that the existing underlying constitutional principles of the Rule of Law and Judicial Independence shall always be maintained.
