The authors exploit a natural experiment in the allocation of land titles across squatters in a poor suburban area of Buenos Aires, Argentina, to evaluate the impact of property rights on child health and education outcomes.

    Governments in a number of countries are trying to address concerns about land grabbing by closing their borders to foreign investors. Are these restrictions effective?
    Not really, says GRAIN. They give the impression that something is being done at the highest level and appeal to nationalist or pro-sovereignty sentiments. But they are very narrow approaches to a complex problem and often full of back doors and loopholes.

La ciudad de Tandil en Argentina debe su crecimiento económico y urbano a la actividad metalmecánica, en particular a la fundición, y a pesar de las crisis del sector, la actividad sigue siendo eje de crecimiento económico y urbano local. Esta investigación caracteriza -en términos productivos,operativos y ambientales- las industrias de fundición, y evalúa las condiciones operativas de la gestión de emisiones gaseosas en el sector en el año 2010.

    La legislación sobre arrendamientos y aparcerías rurales periódicamente conmueve la opinión pública. Precisamente en este momento, la Cámara de Diputados de la Nación trata el proyecto aprobado por el H. Senado. La legislación de fondo no debe estar sometida a modificaciones e innovaciones. Después de estabilidad institucional y política, se necesita estabilidad jurídica y nada menos adecuado que las constantes innovaciones legislativas que traen inseguridad y desconfianza. Sólo Dios construye en el caos.
