This Act, consisting of seven Parts, provides for the reservation of certain Crown lands and their management. Reserved lands are managed by committees of management whose functions and powers are defined in Part 3.

The Act regulates the management of waste lands, it repeals the Acts of Parliament in force respecting the disposal of waste lands of the Crown of Her Majesty’s Australian Colonies. Under section 6, the existing regulations are maintained in force until altered.
This Act prohibits racial discrimination and offensive behaviour based on racial hatred, provides for measures to prevent and eliminate racial discrimination and defines functions of the Australian Human Rights Commission and the Race Discrimination Commissioner for purposes of this Act.
