Les principaux résultats produits au cours de la période considérée dans le présent compte rendu ont inclus la prestation de services dans le cadre du dialogue politique de haut niveau et l’organisation de manifestations parallèles et de séances d’apprentissage sur les questions foncières et les conflits. Des synergies ont été encouragées au sujet des Directives volontaires pour une gouvernance responsable des régimes fonciers applicables aux terres, aux pêches et aux forêts dans le contexte de la sécurité alimentaire nationale et du Cadre et Principes directeurs relatifs aux politiques foncières en Afrique lors de deux réunions consacrées aux dix pays qui conduisent des projets de gouvernance financés par l’Union européenne.

On 9.9.1999, the Heads of State and Government of the Organisation of African Unity issued a Declaration (the Sirte Declaration) calling for the establishment of an African Union, with a view, inter alia, to accelerating the process of integration in the continent to enable it play its rightful role in the global economy while addressing multifaceted social, economic and political problems compounded as they are by certain negative aspects of globalisation.
