Recognition and Respect for Tenure Rights

Recognition and respect for tenure rights has long been recognized as an important concern for development, conservation, and natural resource governance. This paper discusses why secure tenure rights for local communities, indigenous peoples and women are central to good natural resource governance and important for livelihoods and human rights, as recognized in multiple international conventions. The paper reviews both challenges and opportunities for securing rights in practice and highlights successful cases of tenure reform.

In Cameroon, commercial and infrastructural developments are exerting increasing pressure on land and natural resources, which is in turn exacerbating the risks to the rights of indigenous peoples. Against this backdrop, the ongoing process of revising Cameroon’s land legislation provides an opportunity to secure aspects of indigenous peoples’ rights, as part of a wider effort to secure the land rights of local communities.

En tal sentido, el objetivo de este estudio fue desarrollar una metodología para evaluar la calidad del hábitat de la Franja Costera Sur del Río de la Plata.

This paper explores the concept of benefit sharing in natural resources exploitation in Kenya. The author argues that benefit sharing should be interpreted in its various forms, namely monetary and non-monetary since a narrower conception is likely to create confusion, potential conflict between investors and local communities as well as diminished hopes of improving the livelihoods of communities.

These Regulations make provision for the selection, designation, registration and notification of sites to be protected under the Council Directive 92/43/EEC on the conservation of natural habitats and of wild fauna and flora. These Regulations also implement aspects of the Marine and Coastal Access Act 2009. They make provision in respect of European sites for: (a) control of damaging operations caused by human activity; (b) special nature conservation orders and restoration orders; (c) byelaws of the appropriate nature conservation body; and (d) compulsory acquisition.

Este trabalho tem como objectivo identificar as realizações e constrangimentos das famílias dentro dos processos de desenvolvimento rural. As comunidades estudadas em Pebane apresentam limitações semelhantes nas principais actividades realizadas pelas famílias locais, fundamentalmente caracterizadas pela produção agrícola e pesqueira de espécies de baixo rendimento, insuficiência de insumos, falta de capital financeiro para investir e baixo nível tecnológico.
