Summer habitat preferences of GPS-collared reindeer Rangifer tarandus tarandus

Reindeer Rangifer tarandus tarandus husbandry in Sweden commonly uses the Scandinavian mountain chain as grazing area during the snow-free season and the coniferous forests in the east during winter. Current knowledge of habitat use by reindeer is primarily based on traditional or local knowledge, or on investigations carried out on wild reindeer and caribou in other parts of the world. We identified spatial and temporal habitat use of free-ranging semi-domesticated reindeer by following 48 GPS-equipped reindeer in three summer ranges in the Swedish reindeer herding area.

The Spanish law Real Decreto 1469/2007 about the regulations of quality of Iberian pig meat, establishes limitations to the carrying capacity of Iberian pig in the dehesa (open oak parkland) and forces to the regional governments to make a programs of evaluation of acorn production at the beginning of each campaign, that will have to be based on agronomical, environmental, and topographical criteria, identifying each paddocks through SIGPAC.

The Horn of Africa is one of the most conflict-prone areas of the world. It is also home to about 20 million pastoralists, which keep moving with their livestock in search for grazing land and water points. Pastoral conflicts are becoming more and more serious. CEWARN - a regional mechanism for preventing conflicts - tries to close the gap between 'early warning' and 'early response'.

El pastoreo del microzooplancton (< 200 m) sobre el fitoplancton, juega un papel importante en la trofodinámica del sistema pelágico. Para determinar la relevancia de este proceso en Bahía Concepción, se utilizaron la clorofila-a estimada por cromatografía líquida de alta resolución (HPLC) y la microscopía para determinar las tasas de crecimiento del fitoplancton y pastoreo por el microzooplancton obtenidas con la técnica de dilución. El crecimiento del fitoplancton y pastoreo por el microzooplancton fue evaluado en la región media de la bahía.
