The FAO Legal Office provides in-house counsel in accordance with the Basic Texts of the Organization, gives legal advisory services to FAO members, assists in the formulation of treaties on food and agriculture, for which the Director-General acts as Depositary, publishes legal studies and maintains a database (FAOLEX) of national legislation and international agreements concerning food and agriculture (including fisheries, forestry and water).

Decree relative to internal distribution of certain tasks in the Country Agricultural Councils and the Agricultural Boards in matters of Act No. 2 of 18 March, concerning land distribution (Land Code) (No. 853 of 1985).

This Decree allows the County Agricultural Councils to delegate matters relating to redistribution of land up to a certain size and the preparation of land regulation plans pursuant to sections of the Land Reform Act to the County Agricultural Chief or the Forestry Chief and allows the Agricultural Boards to delegate those matters to agronomists or forester of a certain rank.

La Ley, que consta de 6 títulos, 35 artículos, 7 disposiciones finales, 2 complementarias y 1 modificatoria, tiene por objeto normar acerca de la expropiación a que se refiere el articulo 70 de la Constitución Política, el articulo 928 del Código Civil y los artículos 519 a 532 del Código Procesal Civil, que se regirán por la presente Ley. Todos los bienes inmuebles de dominio privado pueden ser objeto de expropiación, excepto los bienes de embajadas o misiones diplomáticas y de organismos internacionales, de conformidad con la Convención de Viena sobre Relaciones Diplomáticas de 1961.
