The FAO Legal Office provides in-house counsel in accordance with the Basic Texts of the Organization, gives legal advisory services to FAO members, assists in the formulation of treaties on food and agriculture, for which the Director-General acts as Depositary, publishes legal studies and maintains a database (FAOLEX) of national legislation and international agreements concerning food and agriculture (including fisheries, forestry and water).

Section 2 empowers the Minister of Land Affairs to delegate any power conferred upon him or her by or under a law regarding land matters to a premier or member of the Executive Council of a Province or any officer contemplated in section 1 of the Local Government Transition Act, 1993. The power delegated shall be exercised subject to directions of the Minister. The Premier or a member of the Executive Council may again delegate the power delegated to him or her to specified local government officials.

This Act shall not apply to rights and obligations governed by customary law of any person other than the State. This Act shall bind the State (sect. 3). Subject to provisions of Part II and Part V, a person shall by prescription become the owner of a thing which he has possessed openly and as if he were the owner thereof for: (a) an uninterrupted period of thirty years; or (b) a period which, together with any periods for which such thing was so possessed by his predecessors in title, constitutes an uninterrupted period of thirty years.

Resolution No. 9 of 1990 of the Environmental Protection Council concerning the setting up of studies on environmental yield and impact of industrial and construction projects.

This Resolution is composed of 6 articles: governmental and national authorities shall carry out studies to evaluate the impact on the environment of the projects included in the attached list (art. 1); the Environmental Protection Council shal keep the following information: comprehensive description of the project; justification and objectives of the project; description of state of the environment; examination of the impact of the project on the environment; and, indication of the environmental protection mesures (art. 2).

Agricultural Tenancies Act 1995 (Chapter 8).

An Act to make provision for farm business tenancies which begin after 1 September 1995. Section 4 excludes in part the Agricultural Holding Act, 1986 to tenancies covered by the present Act. Sections 5 to 7 provide rules for the termination of tenancies. Tenancies continuing for more than two years shall afterwards continue from year to year unless terminated by notice (sect. 5). Section 8 recognizes the right of a tenant to remove buildings and fixtures.

Settled Estates Leasing Act.

This Act concerns the lease of settled estates. "Settled estate" is defined in section 2 as "all immovable property and all estates or interests in any such immovable property, which are subject of any settlement". "Settlement" is defined as "any deed, agreement, will or other instrument under or by virtue of which any immovable property or any estate or any interest in any such immovable property stands limited to or in trust for any person or persons by way of succession or for a life or lives, or for a term of years determinable with the death of any person".
