UNOPS supports the Global Environment Facility (GEF) Small Grants Programme that helps protect poor, remote villages from the serious effects of climate change and environmental degradation. In an effort to support community-led initiatives, UNOPS efficiently channels direct grants to help communities cope with climate change, conserve biodiversity, protect international waters, reduce the impact of persistent organic pollutants, prevent land degradation, and adopt sustainable forest management practices.\n\nThe Community Development and Knowledge Management for the Satoyama Initiative (COMDEKS) project is a unique global programme implemented by the UNDP as a flagship of the International Partnership for the Satoyama Initiative. COMDEKS has been designed to be community driven and support local community activities to maintain and rebuild Socio-Ecological Production Landscapes and Seascapes (SEPLS). Working through the Global Environmental Facility Small Grants Programme, COMDEKS provides small grants to local community organizations to develop sound biodiversity management and sustainable livelihood activities in order to maintain, rebuild, and revitalize socio-ecological production landscape and seascapes.\n

Support to the Global Environment Facility (GEF) Small Grants Programme for MAVA Foundation

UNOPS supports the Global Environment Facility (GEF) Small Grants Programme that helps protect poor, remote villages from the serious effects of climate change and environmental degradation. In an effort to support community-led initiatives, UNOPS efficiently channels direct grants to help communities cope with climate change, conserve biodiversity, protect international waters, reduce the impact of persistent organic pollutants, prevent land degradation, and adopt sustainable forest management practices.\n\nThis collaborative programme with GEF Small Grants Programme and Mava aims to support actions that will further MAVA’s objectives in the Mediterranean and West Africa. The programme includes a combination of site-based projects and thematic national actions in five countries, as well as regional exchanges, government-CSO dialogues, and capacity building activities. The selected countries are Lebanon, Morocco and Tunisia in the Mediterranean and Cape Verde and Guinea-Bissau in West Africa.\n
